Borino: Hotels and accommodations

The Devil's Trail can be reached from Borino via a parking area near Chataka, about five kilometers southeast of the town. The marked path leads through an old coniferous forest to Devil's Bridge, the Hidden Waterfalls, and the confluence of the Buynovska River; wooden rest shelters are located along the route. For some travelers, searching for accommodation also includes the desire to book a hotel in Borino.

Nature and trails

The Kastrakli Reserve, located within the territory of the Borino forestry, protects an old black pine forest, endemic plant species, and rock formations. A small reservoir is located nearby.

Culture

Borino's material culture includes handicrafts, patterned textiles, traditional costumes, and folklore associated with three ethnic groups. Woolen textiles and traditional costumes are made on looms in Borino. There are also two types of traditional costumes and textiles associated with Turkish and Bulgarian religious affiliations.

Local folklore is preserved mainly through songs and dances. The Authentic Folklore Group and the Borinche Children's Dance Folklore Ensemble contribute to its preservation. The repertoire of the Borino Ensemble includes Bulgarian Rhodope songs. Borinche's stated purpose is to preserve local Rhodope and Bulgarian traditions, customs, and folklore.

Location and roads

Borino is located on the Krichim–Mihalkovo–Devin–Dospat road in the Western Rhodopes. The southern Rhodope main road through Borino leads from Smolyan and Devin toward Dospat, Gotse Delchev, Batak, and Velingrad. The area around Borino can be reached by bus or car.

Landscape and protection

The entire municipality of Borino lies within the Natura 2000 network. Tourists and residents collect medicinal plants, mushrooms, and fruit in the municipality. Oregano, raspberries, blueberries, and porcini mushrooms are among the species found in the municipality.

The Kastrakli Reserve is located in the Borino area and has an approved management plan. The protected locality of Borino is also located in the Borino area and was reclassified in 2007 from a buffer zone of the Kastrakli Reserve. The protected natural landmark Devil's Bridge and Waterfall is located in the areas of Borino and Kozhari.

Near Borino stands a protected black pine that is 34 meters high and about 100 years old and is locally called Lyra of Orpheus.

The Buynovsko Gorge, the longest gorge in Bulgaria, lies near Borino. It was declared a natural attraction in 1971. Several tourist trails have been established in the Buynovsko Gorge area.
