Sandanski: Hotels and accommodations

The Archaeological Museum in Sandanski displays an early Christian basilica from the 5th century with preserved mosaic floors. The Sofia–Kulata–Athens railway line passes by Sandanski. In the Pirin Mountains are the resort of Popina Luka and the 11-meter-high Popinolashki Waterfall, 18 kilometers northeast of Sandanski. Popina Luka is the starting point for various mountain trails.

Popina Luka is accessible year-round by private vehicle and in summer by public transport from Sandanski. One route starts and ends in Sandanski and passes through Lilyanovo, Popina Luka, Begovitsa, Rozhen, Zlatolist, Melnik, and Hotovo.

Sandanski is part of the Struma Valley wine and culinary destination. The local wine in the Struma Valley is described as having warm southern aromas and a full-bodied flavor; the Melnik 55 variety is recommended.
