Nature

Yamna lies in the Balkan Mountains near the small mountain river Zlata. The surrounding wooded areas and named mountain localities give the place a nature-oriented setting.

Vrana Voda is an approximately 15 m-high waterfall formed by a karst spring above a travertine terrace upstream from the Stara River. The access route begins in Padesh on a cart track, followed by a forest path; the climb to the waterfall takes about 30 minutes. The Waterfalls Trail to Vrana Voda is described as easy and suitable for children. Foxes, wild boars, snakes, and songbirds are reported around Yamna.

Hiking

From Upper Yamna, a marked trail leads from the Obrashaloto stop via Zebrovitsa to the Thracian fortress of Chertigrad; the route takes about two hours.

The national hiking route In Benkovski's Footsteps passes through Upper Yamna and then continues towards Benkovska Cave and Chertigrad.

A yellow-marked route runs from Etropole Monastery via Suha Raven to Vrana Voda near Yamna.

Culture and History

Chertigrad lies between Yamna and the villages of Brusen, Lopyan, and Cherni Vit on a high plateau surrounded by cliffs up to 100 meters high.

Chertigrad is described as an ancient Thracian fortress whose remains are still present today.

Nearby, Benkovska Cave is associated with Georgi Benkovski's hiding place during the April Uprising; it is described as a one-hour walk from Chertigrad.

A traditional hike to Chertigrad is organized every year around the end of April or the beginning of May. Yamna's annual winter festival takes place after the week of Saint Athanasius.
