Culture and history

The collections of the Pravets Historical Museum include archaeology, numismatics, iconography, gifts to the Bulgarian state and to Todor Zhivkov, as well as foreign art. The museum’s permanent exhibition presents the development of the region from antiquity to the mid-20th century.

The Old Class School in Vidrare is a protected cultural monument dating from 1846–1847. Its museum exhibition covers the history of the village from antiquity to the early period after the Liberation. The building includes a reconstructed 19th-century classroom with a desk for writing in sand, a punishment corner and tables for peer teaching.

The exhibition at Vasil Levski Primary School presents the history and development of education in Pravets from 1820 to the present day. Tunyakovski Khan in Vidrare was built in 1820; it preserves Vasil Levski’s hideout and its authentic interior.

The Church of Saint Athanasius the Great in Pravets was built in 1851–1853 over an older medieval church and is described as the first public building in Pravets. The Monastery of Saint Theodore Tyro is located 3 km east of Pravets on the road to Etropole and existed from the 15th to the 17th century.

Sports and events

The Pravets sports complex has two standard-size tennis courts with GreenSet surfaces, service facilities and lighting. The football complex comprises four grass pitches and is used by Bulgarian and foreign teams for preseason training camps and tournaments.

Pravets also has an 18-hole championship golf course as well as cultural and sporting events, including the Pravets Mozart Festival.

Trails and landscape

Southeast of Pravets, there is a tourist trail 2,752 metres long, divided into three sections. The hiking and mountain tourism trail in Pravets has three rest areas for tourists. It covers an elevation difference of 220 metres on a north-facing slope, from 519 to 739 metres, with an average gradient of 26 degrees.

Borovets Fortress stands on the rocky summit of Great Borovets at an elevation of 847.88 metres and offers views towards the fields of Botevgrad and Etropole.
