Kaloyan Cave bears protected-area code 387 and was designated a protected natural landmark on April 4, 1980. The protected-area data were updated on June 18, 2007. The designation was made to protect a rock formation.

Entering, passing through, and parking motor vehicles at Kaloyan Cave are prohibited. Disturbing wild animals, taking their young or eggs, and damaging nests or burrows are also prohibited. Picking or uprooting plants is not permitted; construction work is prohibited unless provided for in the site's approved planning document.

The protected area of Ozhdren Cave was updated in 2007 from 20,000 to 19,754 decares. Butura Cave is freely accessible and has protected status for a bat colony.

Geographical Setting

Pchelinovo is located in the DGS Gurkovo forest area. This encompasses the southern slopes of part of the Balkan Mountains and the northern slopes of the eastern Sredna Gora.

Routes and Activities

A 15 km hiking trail runs between Lyava Reka and Predela in the municipality of Gurkovo. The route takes approximately eight hours and connects to the international Kom–Predela–Emine trail. The municipal program states that maintenance and signposting work is required. Municipal road SZR 2021 connects the Republic Pass/II-55 through Pchelinovo in the direction of Lyava Reka.

Fishing is possible in the municipality at the Zhrebchevo Reservoir and along the Tundzha, Radova, and Lazova rivers.
