Sinac: Hotels and Accommodation

The three springs of the Gacka River are located next to Sinac, on the southeastern edge of the Gacko Field; the Gacka Springs are protected as a natural monument. Anyone wishing to book a hotel in Sinac can then continue searching for accommodation.

Nature

The springs of the Gacka River are located in Sinac below Godača and Venac. Majerovo vrilo is the highlight for visitors to the Gacka Springs. Gospin oltar is also located on Godača Hill above Sinac.

Culture

The Church of St. Elias in Sinac was completed in 1750 in the Classicist style. It is registered as protected cultural heritage under registration number Z-3951.

KUD Lipa Sinac traces its origins to a tambura orchestra founded in 1923 and works to preserve the musical and oral heritage of Sinac. The residents of Sinac maintain the traditional custom of gacko prelo. Sinčeranska čakavica is also still spoken by the inhabitants.

The Štimac watermill stands at the Klanac spring on a site more than 300 years old; the present building dates from the late 19th century. The Štimac complex includes a watermill, a water-powered fulling mill and a košić used for washing or fulling wool textiles. The Štimac family's fulling mill is one of very few in Croatia to have been preserved in its original form and with uninterrupted operation. The Kralja Tomislava Fountain dates from 1925.

Things to do

The Barkanova staza is a 42.6-kilometre cycling route that passes through Sinac and by Majerovo vrilo and follows the Gacka River; it is rated as moderately difficult.

The Godača Trail begins near a hunting lodge located about one kilometre from Majerovo vrilo. The trail is eight kilometres long, moderately difficult and takes approximately three hours.

Local

At Majerovo vrilo, visitors can watch flour being milled and buy freshly milled flour. Fish farm Gacka offers cold-smoked Gacka trout fillets, caviar and pâté, and sells fish from its own production.

Getting there

Access to the source of the Gacka River near Sinac is described as a route that initially leads from the A1 motorway via Exit 10 for Otočac towards Vrhovine, Korenica and Plitvice, and then via a turn-off to Sinac.
