Culture and History

Mrzli Dol is described as being located within the forested Krivoput Plateau in the Senj hinterland. The local Krivoput speech is classified as a western Štokavian dialect and shares features with the Bunjevci dialects of the Velebit-side Senj hinterland. The Bunjevci population associated with Mrzli Dol traces its settlement origins to migrations from southeastern Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Dalmatia in the 17th century.

The wolf procession tradition in the rest of Mrzli Dol and in Podbilo used a skinned wolf pelt stuffed with straw or dry leaves and carried on a pole. In most of Mrzli Dol, wolf killings were not marked by a village procession because the news was already known as far as Senj.
