Kerestinec: Hotels and Accommodation

Lake Kerestinec and Erdödy Castle are located in the immediate vicinity of one another in Kerestinec. Culture

Erdödy Castle in Kerestinec is a Renaissance-Baroque castle built by the Erdödy noble family. The former moat of Erdödy Castle was once filled with water from nearby streams; a drawbridge led to the northern entrance.

The stone gravestone of the Roman official “Pontius” from the 3rd century AD was found near Kerestinec in the late 19th century. The original Pontius monument has been kept at the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb since 1896; a replica is displayed in the centre of Kerestinec. The Pontius monument is believed to have been carved by a local master and was erected on the Roman road near Kerestinec that connected Emona (Ljubljana) and Siscia (Sisak).

Religion

The parish church in Kerestinec contains the altar fresco “Kerestinečko uskrsnuće”, created by the artist Marijan Jakubin in 2003. The parish church in Kerestinec has ten stained-glass windows; the designs are by Željka Bašlin, and they were executed by the academic sculptor Jure Žaja.
