Kraj Drage: Hotels and Accommodation

Kraj Drage is traversed by the 403 Liburnia cycling route, which continues via Zulijani, Županići and Martinski to Snašići.

Cycling Routes and Landscape

Kraj Drage is part of the official 403 Liburnia circular route. The 71-kilometre route runs from Raša via Čepić, Kršan and Martinski back to Raša. The Liburnia cycling route combines paved and gravel sections; it completes its loop via Barbići and a fire road to the Liburna nature reserve. Nearby, the route reaches Kršan, a fortified settlement whose ruins can be explored on foot.

In the municipality, Trail 861 is a 10-kilometre hiking trail that combines vineyards, freshwater ponds and traditional Istrian cuisine. OPG Giovanna Allegra serves visitors traditional Istrian dishes on Trail 861. Kalić Dužica is one of the few remaining freshwater habitats in the area. The Šumberske dine, marl formations shaped by erosion, are also located in the municipality.

Geographical Setting

The municipality of Sveta Nedelja is situated on a plateau at an altitude of approximately 250 to 300 metres above the valley of the Raša River in the hinterland of Labin. The area extends from the river towards the sea. Rabac is about ten kilometres away and connects the area with the coastal part of Istria.

Culture

The Church of Our Lady of Dren near the Šumber cemetery was restored in the 18th and 19th centuries and is in good condition. It is also associated with the local Petangošt festival. On the edge of Šumber, above the Raša Gorge, stands the parish church of St John and Paul. It was built in 1679; two side chapels were added in 1705. The Gothic Church of St Quirinus at the Šumber cemetery was remodelled during the Baroque period and is also in good condition. Kaštel Šumber is a polygonal fortress enclosed by walls and defended by two round half-towers.

Nearby, steps carved into the living rock lead to Kožljak Castle. Its surviving features include walls, two semicircular towers, a prison and the Romanesque Church of St Hadrian. The castle stands on the old road that connected ancient Histria and Liburnia.

The Dubrova Sculpture Park is also located nearby, a 33-hectare open-air gallery with 68 sculptures and 16 sections of the White Road. The park is open year-round, 24 hours a day; admission is free. Artistic performances, concerts, theatre and other events for visitors take place at the Dolac Amphitheatre.

Nature and Regional History

The nearby Liburna nature reserve is a sanctuary for native local domestic animals, including friendly donkeys, and includes an ethnographic collection of old tools. Raša is also located nearby; it was built in 1936 as a modern town for miners and their families. The Church of St Barbara in Raša houses a collection of mining artefacts. Visitors can also see the entrance to the tunnel through which the former Lake Čepić was drained.
