Kozjača: Hotels and accommodation

The marked, educational Šumarica hiking trail ends in Kozjača. It begins at the forester’s lodge of the Šumarija Velika Gorica near Krušak and leads to the village of Kozjača, where it ends at the Chapel of the Holy Archangel Michael. A woodruff blossom symbol marks the trail; nine stations provide information about the local flora, fauna and cultural significance.

Hiking

The Šumarica hiking trail is not a circular route and takes 2 to 2.5 hours one way. It is marked in both directions. At the end of the hiking trail in Kozjača, Caffe Bar Pevec is indicated as an option for refreshments.

The 17.1-kilometre Podgutnica trail passes by the educational Šumarica hiking route and leads to the summit of Lakovica near Kozjača before returning to Ključić Brdo. The 25.2-kilometre Banderijalac trail passes several hamlets and two water springs and provides rear access to the Lakovica summit. Krušak and Kozjača are connected to Velika Gorica by a regular bus service.

Nature

The Šumarica hiking trail runs through an Important Plant Area designated as a botanically significant area of Croatia. It leads through wooded slopes and ravines, along the Curek stream and across the Kozara stream, as well as past meadows and vineyards near Kozjača. The trail also reaches the Lakovica viewpoint near Kozjača.

Culture

Miholje is also the celebration of Kozjača Day. The programme of the Miholje celebration marking the day of Kozjača began in 2020 with a Mass for the Feast of the Archangel Michael.

Local

Salenjaci are a traditional pastry made from dough with lard, usually filled with fruit jam. In Kozjača, the Kozjača Women’s Association organizes a competition for preparing them on Saint Michael’s Day.
