Culture and History

Muzej Turopolja is located in the former town hall of the Noble Municipality of Turopolje, which was built in the mid-18th century next to the town park in the centre of Velika Gorica. The permanent exhibition at Muzej Turopolja covers the production and processing of textiles, clothing, construction and wooden household objects, as well as housing. Based on finds of Pleistocene fauna, as well as tusks and teeth of woolly mammoths dating from 30,000 to 20,000 years ago, the archaeological collection provides insights into the earliest history of Turopolje.

The tradition of Turopoljsko Jurjevo was revived in Velika Gorica and the surrounding area at the end of the 1980s. The Musée d'art contemporain, a museum, is also located in the vicinity of Velika Gorica. Also located in the vicinity of Velika Gorica are the Archaeological Museum, a museum; Zagreb ZOO, a zoo; Park Dugave, a park; Botanic Garden, a botanical garden; and Fontana kralja Tomislava, a monument. In the wider region around Velika Gorica lies Medvedgrad, a castle, and Sljeme, a summit, is also located in the wider region around Velika Gorica.

The Velika Gorica Visitor Centre at Trg kralja Tomislava 2 is managed by the Velika Gorica Tourist Board. The Turopolje Interpretation Exhibition is continuously promoted there, and the TIC can be used for professional events and festive occasions.
