Culture

The place name Mokošica is derived from Mokoš, the Slavic goddess of fertility and protector of women. Mokošica is home to five summer residences associated with the Bunić, Ranjina, and Zuzorić families. The Gučetić-Đurđevićev ljetnikovac is described as the most important of these summer residences; the last council assembly of the Ragusan nobility took place there in 1814.

Ljetnikovac Lazarević–Gučetić is regarded as one of the outstanding achievements of rural Renaissance architecture and has a Gothic rear façade. Although it has been roofless and in ruins since 1948, it preserves the original layout of its residential building, service wing, and garden areas.

The Ogranak Mokošica public library branch opened in 2009 and was the first cultural institution in this part of the city. It has a children's corner, a reading room, three computers with internet access, and a reference collection.

Landscape

Part of the Tamarić area within Mokošica lies in the significant landscape of Rijeka Dubrovačka. It extends from the source to the mouth in a 300-meter-wide belt on each side of the riverbanks. The area of Mokošica covered by the Tamarić plan has relatively steep northern slopes and level terraces supported by dry-stone walls. The terraced land is described as a characteristic element of the Mediterranean cultural landscape.

Water

The public bathing spots along the shore of Mokošica include Ispod bora and ex-Ambulanta. Guided kayaking tours are offered both for groups and privately, and serve to explore the coast, islands, caves, and beaches of Dubrovnik-Neretva County.

Local

The Tezoro school cooperative in Mokošica is open to people interested in collaboration. It includes areas dedicated to olive growing, traditional dishes, and medicinal plants.
