Puntera: Hotels and Accommodation

Puntera lies on a hill overlooking the Raša Valley. From the area around Puntera, views extend over Raški zaljev, the mouth of the Raša River, and green hills sloping down towards the sea. The village is bordered by the Sali stream to the north and the Kanela stream to the south.

History and Culture

Southwest of Puntera lies the prehistoric hillfort of Prezenak–Oračina, dating from the Bronze and Iron Ages. The associated prehistoric settlement extended for approximately one kilometre and included a documented necropolis.

The Abbey Church of the Holy Trinity in Puntera was built in the first half of the 14th century and restored in 1867. Its central altar features a painting of the Holy Trinity with the Virgin Mary, Saint Matthew the Evangelist, and Saint Anthony of Padua, commissioned in 1798. The altarpiece names Mate Antun Stanković from Barban as its creator. The church also houses a wooden statue of God the Father in the Throne of Mercy motif, which originally stood on the main altar.

The Church of the Holy Trinity has a small, recessed semicircular apse, a bell gable, and a bell. A plaque with a Latin inscription is affixed to its entrance door. The villagescape is also part of the traditional built heritage: the historic houses of Puntera are known for their larger scale and spacious courtyards. The village contains stone tables, benches, shelters, wells, and stone slabs bearing inscriptions more than 300 years old. Several finely hewn houses are protected as cultural heritage.

Nature and Trails

The “Puntera – kanal Raša” hiking trail leads from Puntera to the Sveta Foška pumping station at the mouth of the Raša River. The Puntera–Raša Canal trail system runs through forests and wooded areas. Along the trails, there are several rest areas and information boards about local plant and animal species. The Puntera–Raša Canal trails cover approximately 6 km in total; with the section to Blaz, the route extends in both directions to approximately 15 to 16 km.

The “Tepla stran Puntera–Blaz” trail is suitable for hiking, trekking, horseback riding, and mountaineering. It is 7.25 km long one way and 14.5 km as a round trip; along the route, the elevation reaches 450 metres above sea level.

The “Lost Crowns of King Tomislav” trail is suitable for cycling, horseback riding, and trekking. It is a circular route that starts and ends in Puntera and measures 17.5 km.
