History and Culture

Among the Roman-era finds in the Krasica area is the large Gradina fortress beside the Via Flavia. The remains of Castrum Lionis lie in the Krasica area on a hill after the turnoff towards Baredine. In 1102, Castrum Lionis was donated by Count Ulrich II of Istria to the Church of Aquileia.

The parish church in Krasica was built in the 19th century on the site of an earlier, smaller structure. Its separate bell tower is 18 metres high.

In Krasica, Clai is associated with a boutique winery producing orange wine, as well as with olive oil production and two grappa brands.

Trails

On the Parenzana, rough sections are suitable for mountain bikes, not road or trekking bikes. A prayer path called “Last Path of Blessed Francesco Bonifacio”, which led from Grožnjan to Krasica, is also documented.
