Draguc: Hotels and Accommodation

Draguć is characterised by Venetian fortifications. In the town centre, the parish church dating from the 15th century stands on the town square, while the Chapel of St Eliseus, built at the end of the 12th century, is located at the entrance to Draguć. Culture and History

The exterior of St Eliseus features regularly alternating horizontal rows of light and dark sandstone, creating a miniature Tuscan-Romanesque design. The chapel also preserves a fresco scene depicting a knightly battle, the only figurative scene of its kind in Istria.

St Rocco Church is protected immovable cultural heritage and part of Draguć’s historic urban ensemble. It contains a cycle of frescoes with 28 scenes from the life of Christ, as well as depictions of Old Testament prophets and local patron saints. Glagolitic inscriptions refer to its patrons, the painter, the year of construction and Draguć’s historical experiences.

The Chapel of St Rocco is associated with protection against the plague; its frescoes were painted by Anthony of Padua. The Church of the Holy Rosary was built in 1641 on the site of an older church. It preserves altarpieces and five well-preserved wooden altars that were once used in the churches of Draguć.

Visits and Events

The House of Frescoes is located in the old school on Draguć’s main road. It houses a tourist information office and a small gallery. As an experience centre, the House of Frescoes presents Istria’s cultural heritage through multimedia interactions. It is closed and opens by prior arrangement. The key to St Rocco is kept at the House of Frescoes in Draguć.

Every year, on the third Sunday in June, Draguć hosts the gathering “Z bajson u Draguć” of Bajs musicians.

Landscape and Location

Draguć offers views of Lake Butoniga. The town is located 17 km from Pazin on the road from Cerovlje to Buzet, above Butoniga.
