Gologorica: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture and History

Gologorica was first mentioned in 1102. The entrance leads through Vela vrata, described as the former main gate. A short alley leads to the square by the De Franceschi House, which was built in 1711; the cemetery church of All Saints contains a Glagolitic inscription from 1549.

At the entrance to the village stands the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Romanesque church. It was decorated with Gothic frescoes around 1400. The parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built in the 17th century on the site of an older church. Gothic reliefs depicting the Crucifixion and the Entombment of Jesus, dating from 1466, have been preserved from this earlier church. The Church of St. Peter and Paul in Gologorica is listed as a cultural asset under the designation Z-2477.

The traditional donkey race “Trka s tovari” was revived in Gologorica in 2009 after a 17-year break. Istarski razvod is described as the oldest legal and travel text written in the Glagolitic script.

The Piskovica Cave is located near Gologorica; it is 1,036 metres long.

Gologorica can be reached from Cerovlje and Paz via a road through the valley of the Rakov potok.
