Filipana: Hotels and Accommodation

Culture and History

The area around Filipana shows evidence of prehistoric and ancient settlement. Nearby Vrčin is described as one of the larger prehistoric hillforts in Istria. The site includes double defensive walls and an excavated necropolis; settlement dates from the 13th to the 11th century BC.

The parish church of St Philip and James in Filipana was built in 1609. It has three naves and a bell turret on its projecting façade.

Landscape

A 450-year-old mulberry tree stands in the centre of Filipana. Its shade provides a place to sit, rest and chat with locals.

A path along dry-stone walls leads from Filipana through the surrounding area to the Ciganica pond in the forest.

Paths

The approximately four-kilometre-long L50164 road connects Prodol and Divšići; Filipana lies halfway between the two places.

The short village walk in Filipana begins at the entrance to the village on the Divšići side.

The official 342 Divšići cycling route is an easy, eight-kilometre circular route from Divšići towards Filipana.

Spirituality

Camino South Istria is 193 kilometres long and divided into seven stages.

Pilgrims who complete Camino South Istria in full and collect 18 stamps at the participating locations can request a Compostela certificate.
