Kraljevica: Hotels and Accommodations

Culture

The traditional summer festival Leto va Kraljevici featuring culture, entertainment, and sports has been held for many years. Kraljevica’s mask tradition has also been maintained since 1984 and takes place every year from January to March. Mikuljna, Kraljevica’s Saint Nicholas festival, runs from the end of November to mid-December and includes pilgrimages by sailors and divers.

The Nova Kraljevica Castle serves as a cultural center and event venue in Kraljevica. The Mali Museum of Fishing and Shipbuilding Kraljevica displays 30 ship models and a collection of fishing equipment. In Oštro, an underwater statue of Saint Nicholas has been the destination of an annual divers’ pilgrimage since 2008.

History

The Old Town of the Zrinskis preserves a Baroque layout with two courtyards and was built on the site of a medieval castle. It can be visited during summer cultural events and is listed among the national cultural heritage sites.

The Nova Kraljevica Castle was built as a richly appointed residential palace for the noble Zrinski and Frankopan families. Petar Zrinski began construction in 1651. The lighthouse at Cape OÅ¡tro was built during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and was first lit on August 18, 1872. The Lantern on OÅ¡tro is protected as a cultural heritage asset.

The Church of Saint Nicholas is known for its altarpiece of Saint Nicholas and formerly served as a salt warehouse. The Kraljevica shipyard is described as the first shipyard built in the Rijeka area and as an important monument to the region’s maritime culture.

Nature

The Our Landscape hiking trail is an 11-kilometer marked circular route. It starts at Nova Kraljevica Castle and leads partly through the forest and partly along the sea.

The OÅ¡tro peninsula is a wooded peninsula in Kraljevica and is used for swimming and relaxation. OÅ¡tro Beach has gravel, concrete, and sandy areas.

Coast

Carovo Bay is located near Nova Kraljevica Castle; its beaches are easily accessible to tourists and locals. Boat rentals are available in Grabrova and Črišnjeva bays.
