Nature
Bilice lies on the shore of Lake Prokljan, a cryptodepression in the lower Krka River system. The water in the deeper layers is saline, while the surface waters are fresh. The distinctive feature of this type of landscape is that the surface of the lake lies above sea level, while the lakebed is below it.
Lake Prokljan is connected to the sea by a narrow channel that leads towards the port of Ĺ ibenik. The lake shore at Bilice lies within the protected significant landscape of the Krka River; this protection has been in place since September 1968.
Culture
At Dedića Punta in Bilice, on the southeastern shore of Prukljan, are the protected remains of an early Christian basilica dating from the 6th century. The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, dating from the 15th century, stands on Pomišljaj Hill. Also known as Our Lady of Pomišljaj, it overlooks Bilice and Prukljan.
The remains of an ancient church dedicated to Saint Stephen are preserved on the islet of Stipanac in Lake Prokljan. In Bilice and the surrounding villages, Stipanac is locally known as “Gavan’s court”.
Things to Do
Debeljak Hill above Bilice is used for hiking and offers views over Bilice and Prukljan. Cyclists can follow roads along Lake Prukljan through fields, olive groves and vineyards to the Pomišljaj viewpoint.
The coves of Vrulje and Stubalj are designated as Bilice’s most important bays for mooring boats.
Cuisine
Fishermen’s Night takes place in Bilice every summer, giving locals and visitors the opportunity to try freshly prepared Prukljan delicacies. Prukljan specialties include eel, freshwater sardines, mussels from the channel, sea bass and gilthead sea bream.
Bilice is also associated with a local craft beer festival held in August.

Bilice is connected by bus services from Zagreb, Ĺ ibenik, Zadar and Split.
