Dobranje: Hotels and Accommodations

Culture and History

The old parish church of Saint John the Baptist is listed in the Croatian Register of Cultural Goods under registration number Z-4628. Two stećci stand near the parish church. The decorated stećak depicts a mounted hunter holding a spear ready to throw at a fleeing deer.

The rural ensemble Vuletića staje is a protected cultural-historical ensemble dating from the 18th century. Sklop Vuletić is an 18th-century complex with pronounced defensive features and contains the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk. The chapel was built in 1790, and its small bell tower in 1791. The main altar of Saint John the Baptist is a carved, polychrome wooden altar from the 18th or 19th century and is listed as protected movable cultural property. The altar of Saint John of Nepomuk features carved vine motifs on its wooden columns.

Landscape

Brezdanka is a pit on the northeastern side of Ribnica; its depth is estimated at around 100 metres. Velika Gomila, also known as Gradina, is about thirty metres high.

Vuletića staje served as a secondary settlement for people and livestock during summer grazing. Today, the Dobranjske staje serve as meeting and resting places for local hunters.

Traditions and Present-Day Use

The gusle were the only instrument played in Dobranje for a long time, until a church harmonium was acquired in the 1970s. Ganga is described as one of the folk song forms characteristic of Dobranje. A long section of the Roman and French road has also been preserved in Dobranje.

Services in the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk are held only on the saint’s feast day, 16 May.
