Mravince: Hotels and Accommodation

Mravince lies on the slopes of Mount Mosor. The circular themed hiking trail “Izvor života” passes through the village, connecting the Jadro excursion area with Mravince and Kučine. Those wishing to book a hotel in Mravince can continue their accommodation search afterwards.

Nature

The full route is 9 kilometres long and suitable for mountaineers as well as beginner mountaineers. A 7.5-kilometre variant is intended for recreational athletes with good physical fitness. The route reaches elevations of up to 400 metres.

History

An Early Croatian row-grave cemetery from the 9th and 10th centuries was excavated in Glavičine in Mravince in 1937–39. The 130 graves yielded clothing components and simple jewellery, including belt fittings, copper, bronze and silver earrings, as well as rings. The cemetery is described as one of the largest Old Croatian cemeteries and is associated with the medieval village of Kuk or Kučine.

Prehistoric pottery was found on the western side of Sutikva Hill. The medieval village of Prosik remained inhabited until the 1530s.

Culture

The parish church of Mravince is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist; Saint Mary continues to be venerated there. Its original wooden altars were replaced by Neoclassical marble altars in 1912.

KUD Zvonimir Mravince was founded in 1928 and is based in the cultural centre built in 1932. Historically, KUD Zvonimir Mravince served as a centre of local cultural, educational and entertainment life and organised numerous events.
