Solin: Hotels and Accommodation

Solin combines history, nature and routes through the surrounding area. For travellers looking to book a hotel in Solin, historical sites, nature-based activities and different routes are among the defining features of the destination.

History and Culture

Ancient Salona is an important cultural heritage site connected with Solin. The preserved remains include city walls with towers and gates, a forum with temples, an amphitheatre, and martyr cemeteries at Manastirine, Kapljuč and Marusinac. Tusculum was built for the First Congress of Early Christian Archaeology, which took place in Solin and Split in 1894.

Gospin otok is a riverside Marian shrine associated with the churches of Queen Jelena from the 10th century. Archaeological remains lie beneath the present-day church; next to the shrine is a landscaped lawn. The Muzej Tusculum is located in Manastirine, a well-maintained and researched complex for visitors to the Salona antiquities.

The Javna ustanova u kulturi Zvonimir organises numerous cultural events in Solin. It also restores ancient ceramics and produces authentic souvenirs based on Salona and early Croatian monumental heritage.

Nature and Routes

The Solinka is endangered and strictly protected; fishing for it is prohibited. The Jadro excursion area has a visitor centre with a trout hatchery, an interpretation centre, an educational trail, a playground and a bocce court. A tactile path leads to this visitor centre, and the excursion area also provides platform-assisted access to all facilities for people with reduced mobility.

The 9.5-kilometre themed hiking route “Izvor života” is a circular trail connecting the Jadro spring with Mravince and Kučine. The Solinski planinarski put is relatively long and demanding; it is intended for experienced hikers and not for beginners, families with children or occasional recreational hikers. The Ratnici povijesti cycling route leads from the Salona amphitheatre via Put Voljaka and Kaštel Sućurac back to the amphitheatre.

Events

Solin Winterfest has been held continuously since 2017 and includes children's workshops, interpretive walks, heritage stories and theatre programmes. Solinsko kulturno ljeto includes music, theatre and other performances, as well as activities taking place from the beginning of July to the beginning of September.
