Culture and History

Srinjine is recorded in a document issued by Prince Trpimir dated 4 March 852 and was one of the 12 katuns at the beginning of the history of Poljica. The parish church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in the center of the village. The present-day church was built in 1863 on the site of an older church documented since 1413.

The Archaeological Museum and the Mestrovic Gallery are located in the area surrounding Srinjine. The original width of Diocletian's Road has been preserved only in Srinjine. At the western end of the road through the Vilar Valley, a relief of the Illyrian god Silvanus is set into the wall of a family home.

Lišnjak is an unexplored Roman site near a spring in Srinjine. A local legend places the estate of Diocletian and a large fishpond at the Lišnjak spring in Srinjine.

Dalmatia lies in the area surrounding Srinjine. Perun, Veliki Kabal, Kičere, Botajna, Sveti Ivan, and Sveti Luka are located near Srinjine.

Diocletian's Road follows the ancient bed of the Vilar stream through the Vilar Valley between the hills of Sridivica and Perun.

Trails and Routes

The Diocletian's Road hiking trail runs from Žrnovnica to Srinjine. The Poljički Krug cycling route continues through the Vilar Gorge toward Srinjine and Tugare. It follows paved roads throughout.
