Culture and History
The rural cultural and historical ensemble of Gornje Selo was established in the Middle Ages south of a Late Antique settlement. Gabrinovi dvori are considered one of the most valuable complexes of vernacular houses in Gornje Selo.
In the centre of Gornje Selo stands the parish church of St John the Baptist. It was built in 1859 on the site of an older church and has the form of a three-nave basilica.
The Church of St Mary in Borima was built on the site of a 13th-century Benedictine church and acquired its present appearance in 1776. The site known as Stomorija near Gornje Selo was home to an old Benedictine monastery; a church dedicated to St Mary is documented there for the period from 1260 to 1452.
Religious Sites
The Church of Gospe u Borima has been designated a Marian shrine since 1995. It stands next to Vela Straža, the highest peak on Šolta.
Trails and Landscape
From Gornje Selo, visitors can set out towards the southern bays and olive groves of Šolta. The path starting from Gornje Selo first passes the votive chapel of St Benedict, locally known as Sv. Bene.
