Nature
The Karišnica in Donji Karin is part of the significant Karišnica and Bijela landscape area, which has been protected since 2009. Its catchment area near Donji Karin covers 58 km² and consists largely of steep karst slopes.
The Natura 2000 site HR2001316 Karišnica and Bijela encompasses the wider area of the Karišnica, its mouth at Karin Beach, the gorge and the Bijela stream, the Tuvina coastal wetland belt, and Brežine Hill. It lies between Gornji Karin and Donji Karin. The Karišnica and Bijela Natura 2000 site also includes wetlands as well as coastal and hilly landscapes, waterfalls of the Bijela, and underground habitats at the springs of the Karišnica and Bijela.
Culture
The archaeological zone of Gradina Miodrag is a protected cultural asset and includes remains of ancient Corinium as well as medieval Karin. The Miodrag archaeological site is described as a significant archaeological location that dominates the surrounding landscape.
The Franciscan monastery and the Church of the Immaculate Holy Mary are in operation and can be visited; there are also information boards and signposts. The Franciscan monastery in Donji Karin was built in the late Middle Ages on the foundations of a 9th-century Benedictine monastery.
A stone interlace cross is located in the wall of the cloister of the Franciscan Monastery of the Immaculate Holy Mary in Donji Karin. Franciscans have been active in the area since the 15th century; the monastery once housed schools, and it still contains a small, valuable library. In Donji Karin, the remains of medieval towers from the 13th and 14th centuries are also visible in the terrain.
The remains of the Church of Saint Mark (Nicholas) in Donji Karin are registered as protected immovable cultural property under code Z-2626. They are located on county road Ž 6048 between Donji Karin and Popovići; the remains are overgrown and difficult to identify.
Paths
Old stone mills with their canal systems are lined up along the riverbed of the Karišnica. A well-maintained gravel road runs along the Karišnica.
