Culture and History

Barice in Smilčić is recorded as an extremely significant Neolithic archaeological site that is not visible on site, has not been prepared, and is not open to visitors. The Neolithic site of Barice in Smilčić is attributed to the Danilo culture; ceramic fragments found there may have belonged to an altar-like object.

The Smilčić rondel probably belongs to the late Danilo phase and consists of a system of several ditches connected to further enclosures at the site. In 1923, a 3,000-year-old vessel was found in a grave at the Zemunjača archaeological site in Smilčić.

The Crkva Gospe od Zdravlja in Smilčić is operational, has been prepared, and is regularly maintained. The Orthodox Crkva Sv. Mihovila in Smilčić has also been prepared and is operational.

The historic centre of the settlement, known as "Centar naselja Smilčić", is predominantly characterised by traditional buildings. There is tourist signage in the historic centre of the settlement known as "Centar naselja Smilčić".

The Ladanjski-gospodarski complex in Smilčić dates from the 18th and 19th centuries and is used for the production of wine and liqueur.

Winegrowing

Winegrowing is practised in Smilčić; Vina Figurica produces white, red, and rosé wines from its own grapes. Vina Figurica's vineyards were established in 2003, cover 8 hectares, and contain more than 35,000 vines of five grape varieties. Visitors to Vinarija Vina Figurica can tour the wine cellar, where the wines mature in wooden barrels.

Cycling

The 52-kilometre Via Magna cycling route runs through Benkovac, Kula Atlagić, Korlat, Gornje Biljane, and Smilčić to Donji Karin, and then returns to Benkovac via other places.
