Tribanj: Hotels and accommodations

Tribanj is located on the coast of the Velebit Channel along the Adriatic Coastal Road. The settlements of Tribanj-Kruščica, Šibuljine, and Sveta Marija Magdalena are scattered in deep bays in the northwestern part of the Paklenica Riviera.

Landscape

In the wider area around Tribanj, an easy cycling loop leads through picturesque villages on Velebit. They are characterized by traditional stone architecture and offer cultural and historical monuments as well as views of the mountains and sea.

Trails

The completed Tribanj pedestrian and cycling path forms a 5 km-long route in the immediate mountainous hinterland, connecting the settlements and accommodations in the Tribanj-Šibuljine area to the Kozjača area and enabling recreation and visits away from the D8 state road.

A trail in Velebit Nature Park is located near the village of Ljubotić; it can be reached via the turnoff from the state road at Tribanj-Kruščica. A mountain road leads from the center of Kruščica to Ljubotić.

Culture and history

The Orthodox Church of Saint Michael in Tribanj dates from 1865. The Fortress of the Holy Trinity near Tribanj-Šibuljine dates from the 6th century. The fortress near Sveta Trojica close to Tribanj was one of the fortresses built to protect shipping through the Velebit Channel.

Ljubotić is a Velebit hamlet with a preserved traditional way of life. In the hamlet of Ljubotić, the Vrata Velebita Ethno House displays traditional tools and equipment.

The Mirila along the trail near Ljubotić are stone markers associated with a special burial custom that developed from the 17th to the 20th century, when people lived in the mountain hamlets of Velebit and made their living mainly from livestock farming.
