Pátek: Hotels and Accommodation

Pátek is located in the Polabí Lowland, about 3 km from the spa town of Poděbrady. Cycling from Poděbrady to Pátek takes only a few minutes.

Water and History

The Sánský Canal runs through the built-up area of Pátek. It was constructed in the mid-15th century with the involvement of Jiří of Poděbrady to supply and drain the Poděbrady pond system. Nový mlýn was built in the 15th century between Odřepsy and Pátek on the left bank of the canal. King Jiří gave the mill to his wife Kunhuta.

Townscape and Culture

Nové Mlýny is located on State Road 32, which follows the old route from Poděbrady to Jičín. The present appearance of the Nové Mlýny complex, with buildings surrounding a square courtyard, was created by extensive reconstruction at the end of the 19th century. The Church of St. Vavřinec in Pátek is a subsidiary church of the Roman Catholic parish of Poděbrady. A walk across a meadow leads to Lazarův mlýn; the adjacent ponds are a reminder of the important tradition of fish farming in Bohemia.

Nature and Observations

In the areas near Ostrov, Úmyslovice, and Pátek, extensive terrain depressions and bank edges are reminders of the vanished Blato pond. The Pátek Hydrogeopark is an open-air hydrogeological center in the northeast of Pátek. It provides its own meteorological measurements via a mobile app and compiles the data in an archive. A frog chorus can be heard from Hliňák Pond.

Events

Pátecká Šipka is an annual series of darts tournaments held in summer. The tournaments are open to everyone; registration as a darts player is not required. The traditional Rybářský čtyřboj combines fishing with target throwing and shooting.
