Polerady can be explored through tangible historical and landscape features. A map of the Karlín District Office from 1906 shows square ramparts northeast of the village that no longer exist today; they may have been the remains of a Celtic sanctuary referred to in specialist literature as “Viereckschanzen.”

History and Culture

The first written mention of Polerady dates back to 1290; at that time, Bohuslav z Hory bequeathed the village to the deanery chapter of St. Vitus in Prague. One notable native of Polerady was František Josef Řezáč, a Czech Catholic priest, educator, writer, and politician.

At a crossroads on the western outskirts of Polerady stands a Baroque wayside shrine protected as an immovable cultural monument.

Nature

Polerady has three memorial trees: a wych elm in the courtyard of house no. 42 and two small-leaved linden trees in front of house no. 31. The biocorridor project in Polerady forms an approximately 2.5-kilometre-long strip of land west, southwest, and south of the village and includes four ponds with a total area of 1,040 m². The LBK6 ecological corridor follows the Poleradský potok from Polerady approximately 800 metres northward.

Novoveský kopec hill (Nová Ves u Prahy) is located in the vicinity of Polerady. The wider regional area includes the island of Velké Benátky, Střelecký ostrov island, and Slovanský ostrov island.

Connections

From 1 July 2026, PID plans bus route 321 to run from Letňany via Veleň, Brázdim, Sluhy, Mratín, and Polerady to Brandýs nad Labem railway station.

The wider regional area around Polerady also includes the Stará kanalizační čistírna Praha-Bubeneč Museum, the “The Golz-Kinsky Palace” palace, the Palác Kinských palace, and the Galerie Rudolfinum Museum.
