In Votice, specific places and activities cover everything from Jewish history and sacred architecture to viewpoints, geology, cycling and a treasure hunt for children. There is also an annual town festival with a cultural programme and activities for children.

Culture and History

The Jewish cemetery in Votice preserves 360 gravestones, mostly made of granite, dating from 1705 to the end of the 1930s. The restored ceremonial hall with mortuary was built in 1885 and has served as a regional Jewish museum since 2004. The cemetery is locked; the key can be borrowed from the information centre.

The former Franciscan monastery in Votice dates from the 17th century and offers guided tours with commentary as well as interesting exhibitions. The Boží hrob Chapel is one of 27 surviving Holy Sepulchre chapels in the Bohemian lands; its interior can be viewed through a wrought-iron grille.

Routes and Discoveries

The completed and operational first section of the Cyklostezka Votickem cycle path runs from Votice to Olbramovice. It is approximately three kilometres long and has a modern asphalt surface suitable for cyclists, pedestrians, prams and inline skaters.

The children’s treasure hunt “Putování po Voticích s knížetem Václavem” follows a two-kilometre route. The game map is available free of charge from the information centre or can be downloaded online.

The Václavka is the 35-metre-high observation tower of the Kostel svatého Václava church in Votice.

Nature and Geology

Kamenná vyhlídka on the Na Hůrkách hill above Votice offers views of Votice as well as the more distant hills of Benešovsko and Posázaví. There is also a unique open-air geological exhibition with rock samples and thin sections, an underground telephone, a stony barefoot trail and board games for children.

The Motýlárium is closed in 2026 for operational reasons.

The Svatováclavské slavnosti Votice takes place once a year for the feast of Saint Václav. It includes a procession through the town, cultural performances, stalls, fairground attractions, as well as theatre and games for children.
