Benešov District: Hotels and accommodations
Benešov District combines châteaux, castles, museums and varied landscapes in Central Bohemia. For anyone wishing to book a hotel in Benešov District, this overview also provides access to the area’s cultural and scenic highlights.
Culture
Český Šternberk is one of the best-known castles in the Benešovsko area of Central Bohemia, while Konopiště is one of the most significant châteaux in the Benešovsko area of Central Bohemia. Konopiště was founded as a Gothic fortress, transformed into a Baroque residence and later rebuilt by Franz Ferdinand d’Este.
Four guided tours lead through the interiors of Konopiště, which contain rare art collections. The armoury displays melee weapons, firearms, powder flasks, cannons and a Renaissance shield.
The Muzeum Podblanicka was founded by the Central Bohemian Region for the Benešov District and moved to Vlašim Château in 1988. The museum has more than 49,000 objects reflecting the social and natural history of the region. At Vlašim Château, the exhibitions focus on noble families, weapons and regional history. Seasonal guided tours in Vlašim Park may also include the otherwise inaccessible interiors of the Chinese Pavilion or the Old Castle.
In Hulice, Bee World offers an interactive exhibition in a huge beehive, with touchscreens covering bee anatomy and depictions of honey production.
Nature
The park surrounding Konopiště has several nature trails and is open year-round. The castle moat is home to the Asiatic black bear Jiří.
The Blaník Protected Landscape Area combines beech forests, fields, picturesque villages and small chapels. The nearby Podlesí Nature Reserve near Býkovice contains peat meadows with rare plant and animal species.
Vlašim ParaZOO provides refuge for animals that cannot return to the wild. Water House presents the flooded Švihov Reservoir, including the flooded village of Dolní Kralovice.
