Gossengrün: Cultural Traces and Route in Krajková
If you view Gossengrün with historical interest, include Krajková in your perspective. Sacred architecture, memorials, traditional houses and a clearly measured route offer various perspectives for planning your day.
Culture and History
The Church of St. Peter and Paul, “Kostel sv. Petra a Pavla,” in Krajková has Gothic origins. It was renovated in the Renaissance style in the 16th century and received a new tower in the 19th century. The first written mention of the church dates from 1357. The last documented reconstruction took place in 1996–1997.
Its furnishings include a Rococo altar with acanthus ornaments, as well as a masterful wood carving of Italian origin from the 18th century. Those interested in changes of style and individual works of art can consider the architectural development and the furnishings separately.
The Marian Column stands below the church. Countess Marie Polixena z Písnice donated it to the town in 1701; it was renewed in 1922. A second memorial site is located on the road from Krajková to Květná: the plague column there commemorates the plague epidemic of 1680. In 2008, a local company repaired the plague column and restored it to a fully upright position.
Several valuable half-timbered and plank-built houses in the style of the upper Ohře region have been preserved in Krajková. They were built after the town fire of 1807; among them is Haasův dvůr, house number 145. The construction of the Svatojánská kaplička in Krajková was made possible by Julius Heinrich von Pissnitz in 1761.
The local history of lace-making is also one of the subjects passed down through the generations. The tradition developed after the decline of mining and is reflected in the present-day name of the place. The connection between craftsmanship, mining history and preserved buildings offers a different perspective from looking at the church and its works of art.
Routes and Movement
The “Ve stopách Habartovského pochodu” route is 21.7 km long and runs predominantly on paved paths. It is also recommended for cycling tours. The fixed route length and predominantly paved surface provide a concrete basis if you want to compare a longer route with a shorter visit to the town.
Culture and movement can be understood as separate components of travel planning: the historical stops focus on buildings and memorials, while the route represents a clearly quantified distance with its own form of activity.
Getting There
Petra a Pavla” in Krajková can be reached from Sokolov by bus routes 480570 and 480580. In addition, Hřebeny railway station, 2.5 km away, is located on railway line 145 between Sokolov and Kraslice. For planning purposes, you can consider the bus connections mentioned and the rail connection as two separate transport options side by side.
