Culture and History
The church with its vicarage is a distinctive landmark of Svatava. The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary was consecrated on 26 October 1924. As early as 1908, the residents of Svatava began collecting donations for its construction.
The memorial to the women's concentration camp commemorates a camp that existed in Svatava from 1943 to 1945 as a subcamp of Flossenbürg concentration camp. The foundations of former accommodation buildings are marked on the memorial grounds. The memorial also includes a sculpture of a veiled female body from 1963 by Daniela Vodáková-Vinopalová.
Water and Landscape
Lake Medard was created from the reclaimed former Libík–Medard open-cast mine and is located in the cadastral area of Svatava. The lake is ideal for active recreation. The Svatava River flows through Svatava; with its meanders, clear water and lush riverside vegetation, it is an attraction for tourists.
The mountains of Lobezský vrch, Chrudim, Buková and Špičák are located around Svatava. They complement the landscape surrounding the town without losing the individual connections to the immediate surroundings.
Local Connections and Regional Surroundings
Svatava is an operating station on the Sokolov–Kraslice regional railway line with two sidings. The wider region around Svatava includes the Schlackenwerth Monastery, the Center of Europe memorial, as well as the “Bad Brambach, St. Michaelis” church and the “Zwota, Kirche” church.
The Hernych adit in Čistá u Svatavy is a cultural monument.
