Culture and History
One of the town’s distinctive buildings is the Kynšperská branka, a two-storey town gate whose present form dates from the 16th century. The adjoining half-timbered and log-built structure beside the Kynšperská branka once served as a Jewish prayer room.
The Evangelical Church of the Redeemer was completed and consecrated on 8 December 1905 according to plans by the Stuttgart architects Eisenlohr and Weigle. It is an unusually pure example of the Neo-Romanesque style and has been used by the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren since 1946.
Archaeological research dates the origins of the presumably rather small Kynšperský hrad castle on Zámecký vrch to the 13th century. The abandoned castle later became a ruin; its masonry was gradually dismantled for building purposes.
The Panský dům is a two-storey Baroque building in the upper part of 5. května Square, the market square. In 1586, the building was constructed as a Renaissance town hall.
