Horka U Staré Paky: Hotels and Accommodation
Horka u Staré Paky lies at an elevation of 503 metres above sea level. From here, there are views of the panorama of the entire Krkonoše Mountains.
History and Local Culture
Horka u Staré Paky was established in 1823 at a crossroads of country roads as a rest stop and transshipment point for goods. Carters from Vrchlabí, Trutnov, Broumov, Rokytnice and Nový Svět stopped here when travelling via Horka to Brno and Prague and back again. The first building in the village was the Formanka inn, built at this crossroads with large stables; it was very well known in the region.
Nedaříž also has a historic building that is now part of community life: the former German primary school currently houses a municipal cultural hall, as of 2024. The building was reconstructed between 2002 and 2004. The regional history also includes Bergerova chicory, which became known throughout Austria as a product of the highest quality.
Signpost and Hiking Route
A protected stone signpost with a kilometre stone documents the history of Horka u Staré Paky and road traffic during the interwar period in Czechoslovakia. The signpost is an approximately two-metre-high obelisk with raised relief markings showing directions, destination names, elevations and distances in kilometres.
The tourist signpost in Horka u Staré Paky points with a green marker towards Nová Paka and Pecka, and with a yellow marker towards Borovnice and Pecka. On the green-marked section of the Borovnice–Kozinec–Nová Paka hiking route, the path first follows the road below Šturmův kopec, then continues along a field path up the hill and subsequently returns to the main road. The Borovnice–Kozinec–Nová Paka hiking route leads through the forest to the first houses of Horka u Staré Paky.
In the nearby area, the 33-metre-high Kozinec u Vidochova lookout tower offers views of the Krkonoše Mountains and the Bohemian Paradise.
Publicly Accessible Facility
Next to the football pitch in Horka u Staré Paky, there is a publicly accessible workout area with pull-up bars, parallel bars, wall bars and other simple equipment for exercises, mainly using one's own body weight.
