Hruba Skala: Hotels and Accommodation

The ridge trail through the Hruboskalsko rock city follows a section of the Golden Trail in the Bohemian Paradise. The rock city features numerous caves, rock tunnels and rock gates, as well as other characteristic small-scale formations of the sandstone landscape.

Nature and Rock Landscape

Hruboskalsko, also known as „Skalák“ among climbers, is a nature reserve within the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area and was designated a nature reserve in 1998. Historically, Hruboskalsko was one of the most frequently used climbing areas in Bohemia.

The Mariánská vyhlídka viewpoint offers a typical view of Hrubá Skála Castle and the rock city. The mountains Střelečská hůra, Přivýšina and Tábor are located around Hrubá Skála. In the wider regional surroundings of Hrubá Skála lies Maršovicky vrch mountain.

Culture and History

Hrubá Skála Castle was built in the mid-14th century by Hynek z Valdštejna and converted into a Renaissance château at the end of the 16th century. The Church of St. Joseph is located by the bridge on the square in front of Hrubá Skála Castle and was built in 1812 in a simple Neoclassical style.

Adamovo lože, also known as Jeskyně milenců, contains rock reliefs depicting three Adams: the biblical Adam, the progenitor of the family line, and Adam František. However, the reliefs are not very clearly visible today. Hrubá Skála Castle now serves as a hotel and is only partially accessible; the courtyard and the observation tower are open to visitors. Valdštejn Church is located in the immediate vicinity of Hrubá Skála.
