Krouna: Hotels and accommodations

Krouna is home to protected natural areas as well as evidence of ecclesiastical and craft history. The southern part of the municipality lies within the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. Krouna is also home to the 37.72-hectare Bučina–Spálený kopec Nature Monument, which was designated in 2010. It protects near-natural spruce-beech forest communities as well as the protected bird species Tengmalm’s owl (Aegolius funereus), black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius) and stock dove (Columba oenas).

Nature and landscape

The natural features of Krouna’s cadastral area also include the rare protected plant Dianthus superbus, the superb pink. The U Tučkovy hájenky Nature Monument extends from the area of Svratouch to Krouna.

Culture and history

Krouna is home to the Catholic Church of Saint Michael the Archangel. It is a Baroque building from the second half of the 18th century and stands on the site of a Gothic parish church that was already mentioned in 1350. Krouna also preserves a valuable Renaissance baptismal font from the 16th century.

The municipality’s confessional history also dates back a long way: after the Patent of Toleration of 1781, the Protestant congregation in Krouna was founded as the first Reformed congregation in Bohemia. A significant surviving monument of folk architecture is the Bukáčkův statek farmhouse No. 61, dating from the early 19th century.

Krouna is also associated with the traditional production of painted wooden toys; this craft represents the municipality both nationally and internationally.

Transport

Krouna zastávka railway stop is located on railway line 261 from Svitavy to Žďárec u Skutče. It is integrated into the IREDO integrated transport system.
