In the 1950s, an extensive Neolithic settlement with several phases, longhouse floor plans, and thousands of settlement features was discovered in the municipality of Bylany, south of the Bylanka stream.
Culture and History
A Neolithic rondel was discovered and investigated on the northwestern edge of Bylany. It is a circular enclosure consisting of two concentric ditches with diameters of 90 and 110 metres, respectively, and four entrances.
A late Baroque wayside shrine in Bylany was erected in 1800. An inscription on it is presumably connected with the war against revolutionary France at that time. Another wayside shrine in Bylany was professionally restored in 2006; a small bell tower was built behind it in 2009.
The monument to the victims of the First and Second World Wars stands in Bylany at an intersection next to a general store. The inscription on the monument names victims of the World War from 1914 to 1918 and victims of National Socialism from 1939 to 1945.
The Church of Svatý Jiří and Zámek Kačina Castle are located in the wider regional surroundings of Bylany.
Landscape
The unregulated Bylanka stream is lined with lush vegetation. The mountains of Bučina and Krkanka are located in the wider regional surroundings of Bylany. The hill “(Palác) [Heřmanův Městec]” is also located in the immediate vicinity of Bylany. The hill “(Na Hranicích) [Jeníkovice u Choltic]” is also located in the wider regional surroundings.
