Vortová: Hotels and Accommodation

The “Pražská stezka” long-distance cycling route passes directly through Vortová on its way from Brno to Prague.

Nature

The Utopenec Nature Reserve encompasses the floodplain of the Vortovský potok stream between Utopenec Pond and the Hamerská přehrada Reservoir. It comprises peatland and wet meadow communities along a meandering stream, as well as rare wetland plants, including orchids and bog species. Utopenec provides a habitat for amphibians, reptiles and wetland birds; black storks also frequently visit the area to forage.

Návesník is a protected natural monument in the cadastral area of Vortová. It protects peatland, fen and wet Molinia meadow communities, Nardus grasslands, as well as a pond with sedge stands along the banks and aquatic vegetation.

Trails and Water

There are three ponds in Vortová suitable for spending time or swimming; one of them belongs to a fishing district of the Czech Anglers’ Union that is not focused on trout fishing. Vortová serves as a starting point for summer hikes and winter skiing trips to Žákova hora.

When cycling around Vortová, riders mainly use forest roads with little traffic; along the way, there are frequent opportunities to stop at the surrounding ponds.

Culture and History

The traditional masked carnival procession, known locally as “Vostatky,” is still preserved in Vortová today.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Vortová was completed in July 1882 and built in the Pseudo-Romanesque style. It is located in the centre of Vortová and is a distinctive landmark of the municipality. Services are held there according to the respective announcements.

Historical glassmaking in Vortová existed from the 17th century until the 1750s. In addition, Vortová has a collection of restored timber houses that are still in use.
