Zahorany: Hotels and Accommodation

Zahořany lies in the valley of the Zahořanský potok stream. The marked Č 2 (0217) hiking trail runs through the village from the square in Domažlice via Bořice and Zahořany to Podzámčí below Rýzmberk. The trail is 35.5 km long in total; from Podzámčí, it continues through forests to the Příkopy castle rampart.

Culture and History

In Stanětice, the Church of Saint Kunigunde has been documented in papal tithe registers since 1369. Its side entrance portal, dating from 1250, is considered the oldest part of the church.

The Oprechtice Chapel is an important local landmark and a cultural heritage attraction in the municipality of Zahořany. The restoration of its bell tower revived the local tradition and the custom known as “klekání”, which is unique to the Chodsko region.

Landscape

“Hruška v poli” is an approximately 300-year-old common pear tree (Pyrus communis). It has been protected since 1987 because of its growth and age, as well as its role as a dominant feature of the landscape. The memorial tree near Sedlice grows in a field southwest of the village and north of the Zahořany–Bořice road.

The Spálený vrch and Jezvinec mountains are located in the vicinity of Zahořany. In the wider region around Zahořany are Čerchov and Stangenruck. The Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg zoo is also located in the wider region around Zahořany.
