Bohumilice: Hotels and Accommodations

Bohumilice lies in the foothills of the Šumava Mountains on the right side of the Volyňka Valley. The Bohumilická Alley, which lines the road from Bohumilice to Bošice, belongs to the village. This avenue, just under one kilometre long, is lined with 76 lime trees estimated to be 150 years old. There is seating for visitors at a viewpoint.

Culture and History

Zámek Skalice preserves substantial parts of a Renaissance fortress built in 1549. The entire chateau complex, with its extensive park, is used year-round as an equestrian facility and offers riding lessons. Visits are possible by prior telephone appointment. The exhibition at Zámek Skalice currently includes a meteorite replica.

The Church of the “Nejsvětější Trojice” dates from the mid-13th century. The archaeological site at the church is located in the cemetery on the eastern edge of Bohumilice. The village is also connected with literary history: Karel Klostermann wrote the novel “Strejček z nebe” in Bohumilice.

Trails and Nature

A 27 km-long hiking route marked in yellow and blue from Mařský vrch to Stachy passes through Bohumilice. The Sudslavická stezka runs around the Bohumilice v Čechách railway station. In the vicinity of the village, the northern section of the “Sudslavický okruh” passes through the Opolenec Nature Reserve and wooded, rocky terrain.

The Sudslavický okruh provides information about the local history of limestone quarrying and lime production. It also explains the historical use of a stream’s water power through a cascade of mills and other facilities. The Sudslavická stezka is currently not fully accessible due to a recent landslide on a staircase.
