Budkov: Hotels and Accommodations

In the eastern part of Budkov, the fortress of the Knights of Budkov has been preserved in the walls of the present-day barn on the former manor farm. It dates back to the beginning of the 16th century and retains an originally associated, tall and slender roof structure, which is considered an exceptional historical monument.

Geographical Location

At the northeastern edge of Budkov, a stone road bridge crosses the Libotyňský stream on Class III road No. 144 at kilometer 3.965.

East of Budkov, at Budkovský Pond, lies Budkovský Mlýn. It is a masonry mill of Renaissance origin dating from 1557, with an early Baroque gable. The structure was built in a swamp and founded on oak trunks. The surviving residential building with its mill room is a historically valuable part of what was originally a larger building complex.

Culture and History

Budkov is home to a stone two-arch bridge from the 16th century. South of Budkov, at the edge of the forest, are the remains of 16 Slavic burial mounds. These belong to the significant South Bohemian-Austrian burial mound region.

The Old Linden Tree in Budkov is approximately 300 years old, 29 meters tall, and has a trunk circumference of about 628 centimeters. Next to the Old Linden Tree stands a chapel commemorating the French soldiers who fell during the Napoleonic Wars. Hand-carved wooden beehives dating from 1910 have also been preserved next to house No. 14 in Budkov.

Cycling and Hiking

The Netolice–Vlachovo Březí cycling route runs via the Budkov turnoff and then on to Chocholatá Lhota. It is just under 20 kilometers long, moderately difficult, and suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes.

A marked tourist trail suitable for hiking passes through Budkov. The cycling route “Krajem cestovatele Vyšaty a pošumavských menhirů” also passes through Budkov.
