Culture

The tower of the Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist dates from the early 13th century. Inside, the wooden Baroque high altar of the Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist was created in 1737 by the woodcarver Jan Hammer. The eastern part of the church from the triumphal arch onward, as well as the presbytery and choir, were rebuilt in the Early Gothic style.

Čestice Chateau is an Early Baroque building from the first half of the 17th century and stands on the site of a former fortress. In front of the chateau is a stone Renaissance fountain built between 1815 and 1827. The regional museum in Čestice Chateau displays old agricultural equipment and historical objects related to Čestice.

Above Čestice lies the Kalvárie pilgrimage complex, a listed group of buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The complex includes four Baroque niche chapels with scenes from the Passion. The central Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is designed in the Italian Renaissance style. A wooden hermitage also stands on the western slope of Kalvárie Hill.

Nature

History

Machův včelín in Krušlov is a museum dedicated to the legacy of Josef Mach and beekeeping. It contains more than 80 carvings and artistically decorated beehives. Groups of four or more people can arrange a guided tour of Machův včelín by telephone in advance outside its opening hours.

Machův včelín's recurring events include the traditional “Ukončení sezóny” on the last Sunday in October. The Krušlovský včelín z.s. association, which operates Machův včelín, organizes beekeeping courses.

Getting Around

The Včelí stezka educational trail begins above Čestice at a wayside cross on the route toward Kobylka. The Včelí stezka from Čestice to Krušlov is approximately 5 km long and has 14 stations with carved panels providing information about the life of the honeybee.
