Kalsching: Hotels and accommodations

Chvalšiny is designated as an urban heritage zone. The large spindle-shaped square is approximately 530 meters long and extends from the stream at a right angle up a gentle slope.

Culture and history

The Church of St. Mary Magdalene was built between 1487 and 1507 in the late Gothic style and is considered an important work of the Rosenberg builders’ lodge. It is generally accessible only during regular Sunday services.

The pillory with the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is a four-sided granite column with beveled edges dating from 1690 and is one of the few surviving pillories.

The Schwarzenberg Floating Canal Museum is located in a carefully restored historic building on the square in the municipality of Chvalšiny. The museum’s exhibitions inform visitors about the nature and natural monuments of the Šumava.

Nature

Chvalšiny is located in the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area and serves as a starting point for trails heading toward Blanský les.

Cycling route

The “Rediscovered Kájovsko–Boleticko” cycling route leads from Chvalšiny via cycling route 1139. It forms a circular route of approximately 20 kilometers and runs exclusively along existing marked cycle paths and Class III roads.
