Nature and Geographical Setting

The hill (Hory) [Zvíkov-Chodeč-Zvíkov] is located in the vicinity of Netřebice. In the wider regional surroundings are the ancient site of Chlumany and the mountains Kleť and Zaječí. The mountain Borovanský vrch [Borovany-Dvorec u Třebče] is also located in this wider regional area.

History and Culture

The first documented mention of Netřebice dates back to 1358. Historically, the village was associated with Pořešín Castle. Later, the Rožmberks incorporated Netřebice into the Nové Hrady estate; its owners also held authority over Netřebice until the mid-19th century.

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands next to the kindergarten in Netřebice and dates from 1825. The mass grave in Netřebice is the resting place of 44 victims, mostly from Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, as well as the remains of two Soviet prisoners of war. The Brzdový kámen from the 19th century near Netřebice is a technical memorial to horse-drawn transport and an example of stonemasonry.

The first construction work on the horse-drawn railway began on July 25, 1825, near Netřebice.

Netřebice lies along a former imperial road that is now the international E55. National railway line No. 196, connecting České Budějovice, Horní Dvořiště, and Summerau, also runs through the Netřebice area.
