Landscape

In the former “V louchu” mining area and in a wooded area in Chvalovice, concrete foundations, protruding iron bolts and metal bands, as well as terrain depressions created by spoil heaps, have been preserved.

Mount Skalka is located near Chvalovice, as is Mount Vrata. In the wider regional area are Mount Rohanovský vrch and Mount Libín. The ancient archaeological site of Chlumany is also located in this wider regional area.

History and Architectural Heritage

In the graphite mines of Chvalovice, high-quality flake graphite was extracted to a depth of 115 meters. Farmstead No. 2 is a substantial wooden building with an attached masonry gable at the front and clay plaster on the side; it may be the original monastery farmstead.

Some houses in Chvalovice have hipped roofs with half-hipped gables, which are interpreted in the region as remnants of Rožmberk Gothic. There is also a niche chapel of unknown dedication near Chvalovice. The plastered masonry structure probably dates from the 19th century or from around the turn of the 20th century. A preserved, freely accessible niche chapel is located near Chvalovice.
