In Borečnice, historical references, chapels, cycling and walking trails, and landscape features come together.

History

Borečnice has been documented in writing since 1354. At that time, Jakub of Borečnice served as vice-castellan in Písek, where he administered the revenues.

On 14 March 1405, Mikuláš, known as Volyňský and the then owner of the village, transferred Borečnice, together with two mills, to the hospital in Písek founded by the Knights of the Red Star.

Culture

The village chapel in Borečnice is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1855 after the bell post previously in use had become rotten.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes was built from rubble stone above Tlučkův mlýn mill, modeled on the pilgrimage chapel in Lourdes, at the request of the grandmother of the local miller Kubricht, and consecrated in 1871. In 2012, residents and holiday-home owners from Borečnice restored the chapel; it was reconsecrated on 1 May 2012.

Trails

The Sedláček Trail, renewed with a modified route since 2006, is 35 kilometers long and designated as cycle route No. 1225 for shared pedestrian and bicycle traffic. It leads to Borečnice via cycle route 1158; cycle route CT1158 continues from Borečnice to Zlivice.

In Borečnice, Fešácká hospoda offers a place to stop with an outdoor area and a playground.

Landscape

The Tlučkův, Sulanův mlýn mill belonging to Borečnice was first documented in writing in 1405; the former mill stood on the left bank of the Otava and was demolished in connection with the construction of the Orlík Reservoir.

Nature

Typical forest communities of hornbeam-oak forests are protected in the Žlíbky area.
