Temešvár is located on the left bank of the Vltava, at the Orlík Reservoir, directly in front of the Podolský Bridge on the main road from Písek to Tábor.

Water and Roads

A tourist route crosses Temešvár from north to south. The Podolský Bridge lies between Podolí and Temešvár on Road 29, which connects Tábor and Písek. The present-day bridge was built between 1939 and 1943. It is 510 meters long, and its roadway is 65 meters above the river.

History and Culture

Temešvár was established on the site of a manor farm. The settlement was initially called Nová Ves. It later received the name Temešvár after the Romanian city of Temešvár, where Austrian troops defeated the Turkish army.

Several hoards of Bronze Age artifacts were discovered in the Sloupovna forest in the cadastral area of Temešvár. The permanent exhibition at the Prácheňské Museum in Písek includes bronze bracelets from Temešvár. The more recent history of the Podolský Bridge has also been preserved: it was the American position located farthest behind the demarcation line.

Activities at the Reservoir

In the cadastral area of Temešvár, you can follow the “Stará cesta” past the campsite to the water; there is also a place designated for anglers with disabilities. Water sports are possible at the Orlík Reservoir near Temešvár. Local boat traffic operates on the Orlík Reservoir, and tourists can also use it.
