Culture and History

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk stands in the middle of the village green in Dasný. The residents of Dasný financed it together, and it was consecrated on June 6, 1870. It is a pseudo-Romanesque chapel built between 1869 and 1870.

During the last two centuries before the abolition of serfdom, Dasný was divided into two halves: the northern part belonged to the Hluboká estate, while the southern part belonged to the royal city of České Budějovice. An imperial road to Vodňany, built in the 1820s, crossed the village green diagonally.

The historic farmsteads on the village green in Dasný have preserved a high historical and architectural standard. Three farmhouses there feature design elements in the style of Czech rural Baroque.

Water and Nature

The 520-hectare Bezdrev pond lies north of Dasný. It is used for swimming and water sports, particularly sailing and windsurfing.

The Vrbenské rybníky protected area overlaps with the cadastral area of Dasný. It encompasses ecologically valuable aquatic, wetland, meadow, and forest ecosystems with rare and protected plant and animal species, including the critically endangered fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) and the hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita).

Cycling Connections

The 50-kilometre Velký okruh Blaty cycling loop passes through Dasný and runs between Češňovice and České Budějovice.

From Dasný, you can turn right behind the village and follow a very poor field and forest track alongside a pond to České Budějovice.

Landscape

Dasný offers panoramic views of Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle. The area around Dasný also provides sightlines to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Hosín.
