Hartowitz combines village history, sacred architecture, ceramic tradition and the Orty mine with a marked route.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Virgin Mary on the village square in Hrdějovice is a Baroque building dating from the mid-18th century, which was altered in 1876.

The village square in Hrdějovice has largely preserved its traditional village architecture from the second half of the 19th century. On its eastern side stands House No. 15, a particularly valuable example of folk architecture, with a granary featuring a Baroque-style gable.

The first written mention of Hrdějovice dates from 1350. Prehistoric settlement from the period of the Knovíz culture has also been documented in the municipality's territory.

The local ceramic tradition is associated with blue-painted Hrdějovice ceramics. A new pottery workshop was built in Hrdějovice in 1900, which Josef Štěpánek bought from the farmer Fencl in 1901 for 6,000 guilders.

Chapels and Pilgrimage Sites

The pilgrimage Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes in Těšín has a healing spring dating from 1889.

The Chapel of Saint Roch at the intersection of Těšínská and Hlubocká Streets dates from the 18th century.

A tourist circular route in the České Budějovice area leads to a pilgrimage site with a healing spring in Hrdějovice, which is recommended as a stop to visit.

Nature and Trails

The Orty mine comprises a preserved, extensive system of passages with a total length of approximately 3–4 km, concentrated in a very dense network across an area of about 12 hectares.

Orty is a protected wintering site for several species of bats.

The marked Hornická Route is a 35.5 km circular trail that passes through Hrdějovice.
